1.      (a drawing
        line tension
        TRAPS
        the phantom workhouse
        WHITE
        on yellowing paper
        CRUMBLES
        the morning with snow

2.      a peyote palette
        CROSSES
        the weathermap muscles
        of a slumbering mare
        WAITS
        in the coral
        of my skull
        FALLS APART

3.      a rainbow racehorse
        NEIGHS
        an expressionist smile
        as scopoline spurs bite
        into his last quarter mile
        LATHERS
        the morning with mist

4.      in Brandywine Falls
        ALL
        the lavender trees
        & yellow dogs bark
        as the stable stallions
        leap at the rising sun
        EXPLODES

5.      later    i look
        (in paperback books
        for the apples Hart Crane devoured
        but find only portraits
        & newspaper clippings
        FADE
